When Bina Haralampieva took the lead of the Little City Theatre "Off the Channel", she produced "Romeo and Juliet" as her programme statement performance and almost the entire company of the theatre took part in it.

The performance at the time expressed the emotional surges in Bulgarian society after the democratic changes and in the period of transition. It was a research of "the Balkan syndrome" through which Bina Haralampieva demonstrated her interest in the issue of internal discomfort of the individual in the surrounding social context. It investigates the imperfection one holds within and which could not come to terms with the rules of society that one has created; with the world which one has arranged by one's own spiritual needs.

This topic is in fact central to the director's work and has been the focus of most of her artistic quests - a period which began with "The Ride Down Mt. Morgan" and ended with "Die Rauber".

It is with her most recent production - "Harold and Maude" that Bina Haralampieva will be attempting to study the moments of happiness rather than those of unhappiness. In this production the director expresses her curiosity to those who live in harmony with their own selves.
